Tough Parenting: What Do You Need To Know About Sex And Your Kids?

There was a time when a parent didn’t worry about their children having sex until they at least had acquired a driver’s license! This just isn’t realistic in this day and age.

So why is that we have to worry about sex so much more than our parents did?  The fact is, kids didn’t necessarily have the opportunity to have sex in private until they got their driver’s license in the past.

With both parents working and spending a very large percentage of time away from home, kids are left to their own devices

As a result, what used to be happening in high school is now a more common occurrence in junior high.  With the use of the internet, kids have an almost unlimited number of partners to choose from at the tip of their fingers.

Studies show that here is no difference in the numbers of teens who are having sex in Christian and Non-Christian teens.  Statistics show that each day 8,000 teenagers become infected with some type of STD in the United States.  More than 3 million teenagers will become infected with an STD in the next year alone!

Abstinence pledges have become increasingly more popular, but they’re not as effective as parents and teachers would like, because most teenage girls have a very poor misconception of what abstaining from sex really means.  Often times, when asked, girls are admitting that anything but vaginal sex is considered to be okay in their book, leaving them a virgin.  We know this just isn’t true and the dangers to performing oral and anal sex are very real for teens across the United States.

One very appalling “rite of passage” in multiple states is presented by eighth graders passing into high school.  This “rite of passage” is when girls attend a rainbow party.  A rainbow party is when all of the girls in attendance apply different shades of lipstick and all perform oral sex on all of the guys at the party.

Studies show that many teens don’t consider oral sex to be sex at all.  Oral sex is becoming as casual as a peck on the cheek or a handshake for many teenagers and these misconceptions may lead to an increase in STD outbreaks, potentially leading to death.

Now is the time for you to be a parent.  It’s important for you to both educate your kids, but also keep an open mind and understand that all you can really do is help your kids to understand the consequences of having any kind of unprotected sex and hope that they make the right decision.  Don’t promote sex to them, but make sure they know that you’re there for them if they need you.
