Planned Parenthood – How It Can Help With The Prevention Of Herpes And Other Diseases?

There are two different types of genital herpes – HSV 1 and 2. HSV 1 is normally cold sores forming in the mouth. HSV 2 is genital herpes. There are many things that you can learn to protect yourself from genital herpes.

Planned Parenthood is America’s most trusted provider of reproductive health care. Our skilled health care professionals are dedicated to offering men, women, and teens the highest quality medical care and the most affordable products. There are offices throughout the country.

One in four American women has chosen Planned Parenthood for health care at least once in her life.

Each health center provides safe, reliable services that prevent unintended pregnancies through contraception, reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections through testing and treatment, and screen for cervical and other cancers.  There are caring physicians, nurse practitioners, and other staff that take time to talk with clients, encouraging them to ask questions and discuss their feelings in a confidential setting.

23% of Planned Parenthood health care clients in the U.S. are under the age of 20.  Planned Parenthood affiliates provide educational programs to more than 1.2 million young people and adults each year.  In fact, Planned Parenthood has a website dedicated to teens called Teenwire.com.

As relates to herpes and other infections, Planned Parenthood provides more than 3.3 million tests and treatments for sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, each year.

Planned Parenthood explains that the symptoms of herpes include:

Oral herpes causes cold sores or fever blisters on the lips or inside the mouth. Cold sores and fever blisters are common in young children because parents can pass oral herpes on to their kids with a goodnight kiss.

Genital herpes symptoms include

•    recurring rash with clusters of blistery sores appearing anywhere on the vagina, vulva, cervix, penis, anus, buttocks, or elsewhere on the body
•    pain and discomfort in the genital area
•    itching and burning sensations during urination

To know if you have Herpes:

Only a health care provider can diagnose herpes by performing a physical exam and tests. A blood test can tell if you are infected with oral or genital herpes — even if you don't have symptoms. Health care providers can also confirm herpes infection by testing fluids taken from the sores.

If you think you have herpes sores, get them checked out as soon as possible. It's important to be sure that the sores are herpes. Other serious sexually transmitted infections, like syphilis, may look like herpes but need different treatment.

Planned Parenthood can help teenagers with any questions or concerns.
