Suffering from genital herpes isn’t just about dealing with the physical portion of it. It’s just as important to realize that there can be many psychological effects too.

Often times, people with genital herpes feel ashamed, regretful and disconnected from the rest of the world.  STDs can be such a scary thing and are definitely frowned upon in today’s society.  With as common of an occurrence as they are, no one wants to contract genital herpes.

Support groups and herpes counseling can be very beneficial in helping you to thoroughly learn everything you need to know about genital herpes, how treatment options, prevention as well as how to deal with some of the feelings you may be experiencing. 

You can start by speaking to your healthcare provider regarding available support groups and counseling centers.  You can also try your community or county public health department.

Visiting a genital herpes support group is a way for individuals to express themselves and be reminded that they are not alone.  Sometimes, the simple act of speaking with others who are going through the same things you are in life can be very beneficial to psychological healing. 
The support of a group can answer many of your questions and can help you to feel more positive about your sexual future and less anxious about genital herpes.
